Description

In the heart of the Lambrusco Grasparossa area, about 200 meters above sea level, Fausto and Fabio Altariva farm with passion their lands.

The Fattoria Moretto Winery is currently run by Fausto and Fabio, third generation of the Altariva family.

Indeed everything started with their grandfather Antonio Altariva. In the early 60s ,he moved from Pavullo nel Frignano to Castelvetro to work with his family, starting the company, registering the first sharecropping agreement. By doing that, he started to sell Grasparossa and Lambrusco in the demijohn

In 1971 his son Domenico, newly married, bought 2.5 hectares, where they produced for the first time their own vineyard together with an adjoining house, where they built the first winery.

Domenico increased his passion for viticulture and Lambrusco Grasparossa production more and more, sharing it with and transmitting it to his children Fabio and Fausto at an early age.

In 1991, the almost twenty years old teenagers Fabio and Fausto, decided to step up, changing the production and sales of their wines from bulk to bottles of Lambrusco Grasparossa DOC.  With their father’s help, they built a wider basement winery and decided to give their Company a name: that’s when “Fattoria Moretto” was born.  At first, ...

At first, the bottles produced were all based on a natural fermentation process in bottle.

In the meantime, others Grasparossa vineyards were put together in not adjoining plots over Castelvetro hills, all led using spurred cordon and Guyot technique, with south / south-east exposure. These vineyards located on silt-clay soils situated in an area that enjoys good ventilation, mitigating summer heat and protecting plants from diseases.

In 1995, Fausto decided to convert the cultivation of the vineyard to an “integrated pest management approach”. This represented the first step towards an organic agriculture.  At the end of 90s, the production was changed towards the “Martinotti” or “Charmat” method, always searching for a clean and continuous product.

Nowadays, with all of the wines in purity, the production of the “Fattoria Moretto” aims at expressing with personality the Lambrusco Grasparossa territory, showing a clear decision of Fausto and Fabio: they don’t focus on company policy based on quantity, but they prefer to have a management which leads to improve the quality of the product and service offered, with special attention to the peculiarity of the territory.
